Terms of Use
Last updated: October 6, 2026
These Terms of Use apply to your use of Balcony Gardening (“the site”). By using the site, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site.
What the site provides
The site publishes free guides about growing plants on a balcony or in another small outdoor space, for general information and personal enjoyment. We work to keep the guides clear and accurate, but we do not promise that every guide is free of errors or that you will get a particular result by following it. Plants are living things, and how one responds depends on the plant, its health, the container, the potting mix, the light, the wind, the season and your local climate. The guides describe what to check and what usually helps; they are not a diagnosis of your plant or an assessment of your balcony, and time estimates are approximate.
Balcony safety: not structural, engineering or legal advice
The guides are general gardening information. They are not structural, engineering or legal advice, and they are not a substitute for advice from your building management or from a qualified professional who can inspect your balcony.
The site cannot know what a particular balcony, railing, wall, ceiling or fixing can carry. For that reason the site never gives load figures, and nothing on it should be read as a statement that your balcony, your railing or any piece of hardware is strong enough for a particular use.
Before you attach, hang, mount or place anything on a balcony, you are responsible for:
- checking your building rules or your lease, and asking the landlord or building management where they are unclear;
- using secure mounting that is made for the purpose and that fits your railing or surface;
- considering the weight of wet soil, water and containers, which is far greater than the weight of an empty planter;
- following the manufacturer instructions for planters, brackets, hooks and other hardware;
- making sure that nothing can fall from the balcony and that water does not drain onto people or property below.
You follow the guides at your own risk, and you are responsible for deciding whether a suggestion suits your balcony, your building and your plants.
Plants, pets and product labels
The content on the site is not professional horticultural, veterinary or medical advice. Some garden plants are toxic to pets or to people. Where a guide mentions whether a plant is listed as toxic or non-toxic, it names the source of that statement, and you should check that source for the exact plant you own. If a pet or a child eats part of a plant and you are worried, contact a veterinarian, a doctor or a poison control service right away.
If you use a fertilizer, a pesticide or any other product mentioned in a guide, read the product label and follow it. The label on the product you bought takes priority over anything written on this site, including its directions on amounts, protective gear, storage, waiting times before harvest and keeping the product away from children and pets.

Unless stated otherwise, the text, illustrations and design of the site belong to Balcony Gardening. You are welcome to:
- read, print and use the guides for personal, classroom, library or other non-commercial purposes;

Please do not republish whole guides or illustrations, sell them, or present them as your own work without written permission.
